Top Trends In Denim: Bootcut And Boyfriend Jeans
This year, denim lovers can rejoice in a new (or revived) fashion trend that lets us peel off those skinny jeans and don a pair of denim trousers that fit comfortably and look great. There are two trends this year that are really making an impact: the boyfriend jean, and the bootcut jean.
Boyfriend jeans are a loose (but not too baggy) pair of jeans with a worn look – even a couple of holes is acceptable – that are meant to look as though you’ve stolen your boyfriend’s jeans for the day.
Bootcut jeans, on the other hand, are fitted at the top and slightly relaxed through the hip and thigh with a straight-down style at the bottom, giving your calves the chance to regain circulation after shedding the skinny jeans. In order to wear both of these trends correctly, you’ve got to know how to wear them and what to wear them with.
Boyfriend Jeans
In order to really pull off the look of the boyfriend jean, you’ve got to do it correctly. The key is to ensure balance; worn, but not too worn, and loose, but not too baggy. Fashion celebrities like Heidi Klum offer helpful advice on how to pull off this newly embraced style. There are a few points to consider closely when aiming to pull off the boyfriend jean.
Worn Not Sloppy
The boyfriend jean should certainly have a worn appearance. After all, how many men do you know that wear perfectly spotless jeans on the weekend? But if the jeans become too riddled with holes and tears, they can start to look a bit sloppy. This is, after all, the boyfriend jean, not the construction site jean.
Loose Fit
The second point you’ll want to consider about the boyfriend jean is that it should be quite a loose fit. Again, don’t make it look sloppy; the top of the jeans should still fit your waistline a bit snugly. But since the idea is that you’ve borrowed your boyfriend’s jeans, something that fits you too well just looks awkward, as though you’ve tried to combine two styles together. Loose jeans that feel comfortable, but not too roomy are your best option.
Completing The Outfit
When wearing your favourite boyfriend jeans, the trick is to pair them with the appropriate accessories, particularly where your feet are concerned. Where high heels and skinny jeans might have been a fashionable look, the point of the boyfriend jean is to convey comfort. If you’ve got your favourite pair of flats hiding in the closet, bring them out, as many fashion experts suggest wearing low, flat shoes when sporting the boyfriend cut.
Bootcut Jeans
Bootcut jeans are a fashionable trend this year, and it’s a welcomed change from the breath-stealing skinny jeans of the past. If you’re looking at the boyfriend jeans and cringing a bit because they’re just too masculine for you, or you’d rather have a less-worn look, the bootcut jean is here to save the day. Bootcut jeans are being looked at much more favourably now than they have been in recent year, as their loose-but-flattering style is a liberating change from the skinny jeans of recent popularity. But many fashion bloggers and stylists argue that the trend never really went away, it simply faded in the light of the skinny jean for awhile. Now that they’re back, you’ll want to make sure to wear them (and pair them) correctly.
Fitted But Forgiving
If you put on a pair of bootcut jeans and you feel like you’re wearing a pair of skinny jeans with a loose calf, you’ve got the wrong style or the wrong size. Bootcut jeans should feel comfortably snug at the top, fitted but forgiving through the hip and thigh, and then drop off just above the knee for a straight-down finish. It should not feel as though you’ve got super tight jeans down to the knee, and loose jeans from the knee down. They should be comfortable, and you should be able to sit down without any discomfort.
Completing The Outfit
The obvious choice for shoe pairings with your bootcut jeans would be boots, particularly ones with a low heel. But if you’re just not feeling boots, that’s quite alright, you can also don a pair of pointy-toed flats or Converse to complete the look. Fashion stylists and experts generally agree that ballet flats are not suggested, although some people wear them, and sandals are a no-no.
Now that you know how to wear and pair the season’s hottest denim trends, go out and grab a pair of each and get to styling. While every trend seems to make a comeback at some point, if you just want to get rid of your skinny jeans for now, go for it. Fashion experts seem to agree that the too-tight-for-most trend is becoming tiresome for most, and with the new, more comfortable trends emerging this season, you can feel free to be free (and comfortable) in denim.
I love that jeans never ever go out of style whatever cut it is :)
I have 1 boot cut jeans but the rest of my jeans are skinny. :)
I always wear jeans whenever I travel. It’s comfortable and makes me feel comfy and warm. I like wearing skinny jeans coz I can do boyfriend style.
Jeans are always trending. My mother-in-law have lots of bootcut jeans, she was giving it to me, but it doesn’t fit on my waist and thighs so I have to lose some weight first. :D
My choice would be the second one, it’s clean and sleek!
Oh I’m so jealous! I don’t wear pants that much because of my height >.< Haha!
I would go with the bootcut jeans. Honestly, ever since the boyfriend jeans started, I haven’t bought a pair yet. Sure I bought my very first ripped off Quiksilver jeans and I like it, but never a pair of boyfriend jeans. I might want to try.
I will always be into bootcut jeans! They make you look taller.
