The next time you are out and about take a look at the signs for new home construction in your neighborhood. Almost without exception you will find “custom” models everywhere you look. If they are not custom when they start by virtue of the limitless floor plans, and interior design options, by the time they are finished they become a reflection of the personality and individual taste of those proud new owners.
Think about cars. Dealer plazas that accommodate many different new can dealerships promote an easy and convenient way to shop and compare makes and models. To think not all that long ago many a car salesman quipped “You can have any color as long as its black”. Now there is a never ending stream of make, model, options, packages and prices that promote maximum choice to the consumer enabling a public demonstration of who we are.
There is a growing trend in society today to proudly display preferences that define who people are. In almost every way possible people choose to display their individuality, their tastes, and the things and styles that portray their very essence. From cell phones to eyeglass frames, from innumerable styles of jeans to a plethora of shoe styles, everything everywhere makes choice seemingly limitless.
Among the more personal choices that the public is now able to make is custom jewellery such as unique engagement rings or custom wedding bands. The options and choices presented by houses, cars, fashion and phones pales in comparison to the variety of metals, precious gems, and settings or styles which in combination are limited only by imagination and creativity. Whether one chooses a ring, bracelet, pendant or necklace, the statement made by the design and character inherent to the many components making up the design is unmistakably individual and personal. Not unlike the days of the Model “T”, long gone are the limits imposed on individuality by stock jewellery.
